Hello, some help needed.

I have an old 2013 MacBook Air. I think I read Apple have stopped security updates for it. Will it be okay for my wife to use for internet and emails?

Many thanks

What's the latest OS you can run on that 2013?

I'm using Monterey on a 13” 2015 MBA and it works like a charm. It keeps getting appropriate security updates.

I have a more recent Mac with an older OS, Mojave, and won’t go on line anymore with that one.

Personally, I'd avoid the Internet with machines that don’t have the latest security patches, especially for Safari.

If you can afford it, and your wife wants or needs a laptop, the a 2020 M1 13” MBA or, even better, a 2022 M2 13” MBA would be well worth it. Superb battery life, speed, no fan, and secure. Apple refurbished offers good products, good deals, with a full one year Apple warranty and the option to extend that.

If buying new, though, I'd wait a month or month and a half to see whether an M3 MBA comes out.

Given your wife is only using this for email and Internet, you could also go with a new iPad 9. You'd have the latest iPad OS, secure browsing and email, and the convenience of a user friendly, intimate device. My partner, with similar uses, switched from a laptop to an iPad and loves it!
