I have an Alesis MasterControl and would like to use it with my MacBook 2015 - 1.2 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core M with 8 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD. I would like to use it with Logic Pro and use macOS Sierra.

I know that the MacBook 2015 is VERY underpowered, but can it be used with Logic Pro and not get too overheated and cause slow down etc.?

Just wondering if anyone has use the MacBook 2015 with Logic Pro. I would probably use no more than 8-12 tracks and just light effects.

My Alesis MasterControl is still in great condition, but the drivers seem to die after macOS Sierra, so this is the reason to use the MacBook and give it a try.

I would LOVE to be able to use my MasterControl with the M-Silicone family, but the drivers won't load.

Any thoughts who have used the MacBook 2015 with Logic Pro?

Thanks!

I don't think you'll have issues with it shutting down, but you will likely have plenty of problems with performance in general for that use. The 2015 rMB also has a number of reliability issues with the logic board burning itself out, so pushing it hard like that might not be the best idea for a 2015.

I'd give it a shot with a project, see how well it does or doesn't perform, and judge from there based on your own usage.

I thought so...no fan and it will overheat. I was hoping due to the forum factor I could use it, including being able to use macOS Sierra on it

It may or may not end up being an issue depending on exactly how you use the app though. I'd still suggest giving it a go assuming you already have the rMB, see how it works, and determine if it's something you wanna continue with.

Yes, I have it and is why I am asking. I don't want to blow it up or cause it to overheat and die.

When I took it to Apple and replaced the battery a month before it went obsolete, it looked like Apple also fixed something (not knowing) and it has been running like a champ since. The Apple employee was amazed that it was in such good shape. I asked him if people had come in to replace the battery, and he said he had many since Apple does not make this small form factor any longer. Yes the MacBook Air is great. But...though very errored the MacBook is and it was a "good try" or idea...I still like it regardless. I am typing on it now this reply. LOVE to have M-Series chip in it (even an M1), but that is another story.

I will probably not risk stressing it out since it is old and I still use it as my portable (though I have a M3 MacBook Air). I also have a Mac mini 2012 & MacBook Pro 2010 still to use for old stuff, so I will probably just use one of them for the Alesis MasterControl. The rMB is just so light and small, its easier to use.

Thanks for the recommendation.

Cheers! Yeah, sometimes it's best to not risk a machine that's relatively delicate and that you enjoy. If you have other machines there to use, best to use them for the more intensive workloads and leave the gentler stuff for the 12".
