Hi! I have a 2017 MacBook (usb-c model, without touchbar), purchased 2 1/2 years ago. It’s run flawlessly until yesterday, when blue/pink horizontal flickering lines appeared on the display, which makes it totally unusable. I rang Apple who did some basic over the phone diagnostics and said it needs to go to the service centre, but could cost anything between £50 for a new cable and £500 for a new display.

I know that there are known cable/display issues with the 2016 model, and there seem to be a couple of people online with this flickering line issue too, and it looks likely to me that it’s going to be a new display. It seems to me that a £1500 laptop shouldn’t be unusable 2.5 years later, and I’m wondering if anyone knows if there are known issues with the 2017 model I can cite to Apple, or if I stand a chance with arguing that it should be harder wearing than this? I’m a grad student and don’t have the money for a new display, and have really looked after this mac, so any help/advice that could convince Apple to fix it at their cost/ minimal cost would be really appreciated!
