I've been trying to connect some headphones to my macbook for the first time. However, the socket will not let me connect them in any way. The audio in next to it lets me plug it in easily however, trying to connect in the headphone socket just doesn't go in at all.

Any suggestions?

What specific MacBook model do you have (there have been several since 2006) and what specific plug (headphone) do you want to connect to it?

Also know, that the 3.5mm audio out port only delivers analog audio out with two channels (stereo) or a digital out via TOSLINK cable.

As the topic says Macbook version 5.1.

I'm just trying to plug a normal set of headphones into it. They all refuse to go in even the crappy ones you get with the iphone

Did you inspect the socket with a flashlight see if something stuck in there?
