Hey guys,

So I thought it was time to upgrade the ram in my MacBook. It had 2GB DDR 3 1066Mhz RAM.

So, I wanted to go to 8GB. My Supplier gave me 2 x 4GB DDR 3 1333Mhz ram.

So, I pop'd both 4Gbs in. MacBook starts, but just beeps at me.
So I tried on 4GB model - same thing

I tried 4GB model and the original 1GB - it boots!
Tried this combo with both 4GB models, same story!

Checked in OS X Lion with About this mac and it shows 5GB with 1 x 1GB and 1 x 4GB.

Can anyone help me as to what is going on?:(

Thank you!

That's because with the stock ram stick in it downgrades the speed from 1333 to 1066. You have 2 options in order to use 8gb of ram either you reprogram the spd or you return the sticks for 1066 ones.

Thanks. I figured as much.

My supplier doesn't have 1066 ram.

I will just reprogram the SPD.

Thank you for the help.

Just as an update for anyone else interested:

I installed BootCamp onto the MacBook and installed Windows so to use a program called Thiapoon Burner and it allowed me to down clock the 1333 memory to 1066.

Now running 8GB DDR 3

Since removed the boot camp as I don't use windows for anything.
