Hello I need help,

My macbook a1181 has no chime at startup, flashing button at the fold beside the black button(sorry not sure what to call it) and the screen will flash for a second. No image displayed onto an external monitor. The hard drive was fine before examination on the inside. The hard drive is now wiped with no OS on it and if I put an OS X leopard in it will work sometimes and sit there acting like it will do something or it will spit it out. I checked the RAM slots with different types of RAM and checked the slots themselves one at a time. Is it a logic board issue, a RAM issue, or a hard drive issue. How can I fix it also. Thank you

So I reset the PRAM then turned it on to do the recovery. The sleeping light is still going on. No chime. The screen flashes once and then again after about 2 or 3 seconds then starts up but still no screen. The disc I have for it is OS X Leopard Install disc. What am I doing wrong
