Macbook air 11" 2012 (Yosemite or El Capitan)?

Hello guys thank you for reading my post,
I have Macbook air 11'' 2012 with i5 and 4gb ram, so I wonder, because I am to newbie for macbooks at all, I would like to give me some advice, first what should I use and what is better for this mac air, Yosemite os or El Capitan? And what advice you will give me for the macbook air at all, carrying, tips etc.

I would update to Mac OS sierra
it runs great on my 2011 MacBook Air. Get a case or something when you traval a lot so it stays protected. For general tips just google them.
