Hey guys,

I've got a Macbook Air 11" from Mid 2012 and, sadly, it doesn't support my Dell monitor due to its limited resolution. Could you advise me a safe buy monitor that would go with it? I need it mostly for doing uni coursework, so max 21" in size.

Cheers
J.

What Dell monitor is it? The MBA supports resolutions up to 2560x1600

I'm using an MBA 11" with a Dell monitor of 1920x1200 resolution, no problem here. It's might be a cable or adapter issue in your case.

Same here. Using a Moshi mDP -> HDMI adapter on a Dell monitor and even sound gets through. :)

Hi, the monitor details are here: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/popupproductdetail.aspx?sku=320-1629

I tried to use it with HDMI to miniport adapter and it would display a message saying the resolution of the screen is insufficient. I've played around with System Preferences>Display options, but nothing would work. I brought the adapter back to the store and used it to connect to another Dell display without any problems.
Do you know what could be the issue here?

Hi again,

Thanks a lot guys, I'm going to shop for the DVI adapter then x

If possible, try to bring your laptop with you so you don't spend more money on peripherals which may not solve your problems.

Hmm...weird, I am using a HDMI-minidisplay cable to connect my 11" macbook air (also 2012 model) to a 23" 1920x1080 Samsung monitor with no issues.

Would you care to try a HDMI-to-minidisplay cable (the actual cable, not an adaptor?) I know the moshi adaptor works (I tried it) as well.

Can you test your monitor with another computer? Could be the monitor's fault.

Lastly, try connecting your macbook to another monitor and see if you experience a similar problem. At least we can narrow down the issues. :)
