Hello,

I'm looking to replace my well-aged 2008 Macbook Pro 2.5GHz C2D with a 2017 Macbook Air (13")
Core i5 - 1.8 GHz - 128 GB HDD + SSD - RAM 8GB.

I also have a 2012 Mac Mini that is starting to show it's age - I want to be able to run Logic Pro and Photoshop.

I dont have a lot of cash due to current UK finances so have been looking on refurbishment sites and can get the above spec for
£331.94 / $385.08

Or would a 2015 2.2Ghz i7 model work out better?

Thoughts?

Thanks :)

Hi, go for the 2017 i5 version @1.8GHz. On the ULV (ultra low voltage) versions there is basically no difference in performance between the i5 and the i7. Also consider the 1.8 can turboboost at 2.7 GHz if needed.

I have a good 2017 i5 bought for 300€ this very year. Upgrade the SSD with a good NVME M.2 hard disk from Samsung like the 980 (don't go with the cheaper Crucial ones).
To work with a mac you will need a small adapter, you can find on amazon for 15€.

This upgrade will have a visible change in performance in all area.

Hope it helped.
