MacBook Air 13" Early 2014 - Which USB?

I'm trying to help someone order an external drive for this laptop. Apple Tech Specs list "Two USB 3 ports (up to 5 Gbps)." However, the ports are white inside, not blue. What gives?

I have an early 2015 MBA with 2 USB 3 ports. They are also white connectors. Maybe it was Apple's obsession with white?.. I have an HP 840-G5 work laptop with connectors that are black.. Not sure that color matters.. I would go with what the spec says..

They are definitely USB 3.0 in the Air and colour does not matter.

Apple probably uses white to remain consistent with earlier models of the Air and Pro.
