What do I get extra with a 14" MBP vs 13" MB Air? In both cases I look at 10 core CPU/10 core GPU, 24GB, 1Tb. Does the MBP have higher performance?

MBPro advantages:

1. Much better (Micro LED) display.
2. Extra TB 4 port (on the right hand side), SD card slot.
3. Significantly better sound.
4. Includes fan so will not thermally limit as quickly as the MBA.
5. Larger battery.

MBPro Disadvantages:
1. Heavier than the 13" MBA (but only slightly heavier than the 15" MBA).
2. Thicker.
3. More expensive.

For me the advantages of the M4 14" MBPro (especially items 1 and 2 in the advantages list) were sufficient to trade in my M2 15" MBA for the M4 14" MBPro rather than a M4 MBA.

If you can afford either, the answer is simple:

I upgraded to a 14" MBP M4 Pro from a 13" M2 Air. Not because I needed to do so, but because I wanted to do so. The things I noticed.

1. The speakers are better.
2. The machine is faster.
3. The extra 1" was a little better.
4. The screen was slightly better.
5. The machine is heavier.
6. I needed to buy a new carry case.
7. The SDXC slot is a major convenience for my photography.
8. The MBP cost a lot more.
9. The MBP is bulkier.
10. The machine does not throttle with Lightroom.
11. The right side USB-C is nice, but not a game changer.

None of these are significant by themselves. Add them up and the MBP is a better machine. However, if I had to chose today, I would go with the 13" M4 Air, 32 Gig, 1 TB. I travel with the machine and the Air would make a great travel machine and serve my needs. Not as fast at the MBP, but fast enough for my workload.

I think both of your choices are excellent and it comes down to funding. The less expensive Air leaves some room for accessories. The first of which I would get with the savings is an external SSD and enclosure.

To each their own. My needs/desires certainly do not reflect what others want/need. Pick one, don't look back.
