I don’t see any discussions around this. I was genuinely surprised. I thought it would be 1400 or 1500. But they decided to decrease the price of the 13” and make the 15” only $200 more.

Nice touch. It’s an acknowledgment by Apple that the new 13” Air was priced incorrectly from the start. This could really boost Mac sales again, even without M3.

I will definitely be getting a few 15” Airs as gifts to family members.

It's not $1300 most likely as Apple put a slow SSD in it forcing people to upgrade to get a normal functioning MacBook Air.

It's something that Apple has started doing since the 13" M2 MBA last year, so I won't be surprised if Apple did the same thing with this model.

I don’t think so. New designs tend to have higher prices. The first retina iMac was 1199 before going to 1099 and then 999. The first 5k iMac was 2499 before coming down to 1799 within a year and half or so if I remember correctly. That’s why they keep the the lower end models around because they know the price isn’t for everyone. In a year it will probably be 999 in a year and they discontinue the M1.

The 15” is a good price though. Even better if it’s 1199 in the future if the other model goes to 999.

There’s nothing slow about it.

Not in EU, in my country and others around it's standart price is 1729$ for base model when converted from €.
Model with 8GB of RAM and 512GB SSD would be around 1970$.

Not in $AUD $2199
That's only $38 more than in California. AUD has been declining when compared to the dollar so the $38 could just be an exchange rate buffer to hedge against further declines.

People need to know that Apple's prices in keynotes do not include a sales tax. Most US states charge a sales tax.

Have room for any new family members?! 😎

Books, pajamas, shirts, bird feeders, astronomy calendars, etc. are the usual here!
Apple is paying for my Macs. 😁

Of course, bulk it up to 16GB and 1 TB and you can pay $200 + $200 = $400 more!

Suddenly, not quite as good a deal! But still far better than what the masses around here were expecting for the base model (see, e.g., that one thread with the poll!).

You know, this really bugs me. I have been, for years, asking for a bigger screen MacBook Air. For. Years. I finally give in waiting and pick up a 16' MacBook Pro, and then suddenly, the 15' is announced.

In the Tim Cook era of Apple the base model Macs have usually been severely compromised and with no chance to upgrade the RAM or storage later on. It's a shame because I can't remember the last time I've been able to recommend any base model Mac.

15" Air has been rumored for a while now.

So has a lot of things.

Wouldn't trade in my 16' MBP for the world though ;) Alls well that ends well.

I was expecting a minimum $1500 and definitely was not expecting to see a price cut on the 13'' to go along with it.

Apple beat my pricing expectation considerably with this machine. It was also enough to get me to preorder. This is the computer I have wanted from Apple for a very long time.

All relative I guess. I used 5400 HDDs and only floppies so it is in no way slow. I also love when people flip over a minute download. It used to take like a hour for 1MB on 56k lol. And if someone picked up the phone ^%^^%^@&
You can't possibly notice a slower SSD unless it's transferring huge files constantly.

In fact, you can't even notice an SATA SSD vs NVMe SSD.

I have the 16” MBP and there’s no way I’d trade it for any Air.
