Hi All,

Quick question. My friend has a mid-2012 MBA with 4 GB and i5 (A1466, EMC 2559). I have not used this MBA but I have with 2013-2107. I have been able to swap logic boards between those MBAs and I was wondering if 2012 if similar enough to upgrade with a 2017 i7 8GB logic board - its for his kid who will use it in middle school - also this upgrade will give him Monterey and also newer airport card.

Has anyone done this? Are 2012 and 2017 internals same to just swap parts as with 2013 and 2017? Also will need new battery. The total cost of part is less that 250 so I think it can be done but I am not sure if the architecture is similar enough for a swap.

Thank you!

I don't think so, the 2013+ had some revisions that aren't compatible. I seem to remember that screw placement was different and also a change to the microphone setup and maybe even the connectors.

Thank you - that's what I thought but I wanted to make sure before I bought parts etc
