I’ve had this laptop for over 6 years and it’s been by far one of my best tech purchases period.

It still works perfectly fine for all the daily tasks I throw at it, however I’ve almost filled the stock drive (512GB).

I’ve been looking at OWC and I see that I can purchase a 1TB replacement SSD for around $250.

My question is how many years do you think I can get out of this machine? I maxed out the specs at purchase (i7, 8GB ram, 512GB ssd). Will this set up run most non intensive tasks and the newest OS for another year or two?

Or should I just save the ssd upgrade money and put it towards a new laptop?

I know the rate of improvement has decreased somewhat and these older spec machines still have some life in them.

Is there anything on the horizon worth holding out for before upgrading to a newer laptop?

I have the same 2013 MBA (with 11" screen) and am still happy with it. However, I would not sink another penny into a machine this old. IMO $250 is way too much to spend. Do you really need a bigger SSD? I have around 10TB of data scattered across 4 different computers with a bunch of external disks. Don't really need to have all that stuff on my laptop however. How about using a network drive instead of upgrading the SSD? Or perhaps an external SSD if you need something faster? I have three Samsung T3 external SSD's and they are really small and fast.
