I'm running Windows 8 using a Bootcamp on a MBA 2013. I noticed that there are new drivers available for the Intel's GPU. Here's a copy-paste from the release notes:

NEW FEATURES:
 Support added for 4th Generation Intel Core Processors which adds the following new graphics related features:
o New Display capabilities
 Three Independent monitor supported via DisplayPort* Multi Stream Technology

Sounds interesting. If this is really true, doesn't this mean that we could run multiple external Displayport 1.2 monitors from the single Thunderbolt connection?

It's been possible to run multiple displays since the MBA 2012:

It looks like now though, the 2013 can run at least one more display than the 2012.

The problem has always been having enough connectors though. On the MBA, there's only one port, meaning you have to have hardware that permits daisy chaining all the displays. So far, the only display that can do that is the $1,000 thunderbolt display, which not a lot of people spring for.
