Just thought I would post some results of my eGPU testing.

Setup :

Sonnet Breakaway box 550w (provides 87w charging)
MacBook Air : 2018 , 8gb ram , 256gb ssd , 1.6ghz i5 cpu

Results captured using system load utilities , Activity monitor , top , perftop.

Currently running several tests on the eGPU , Basically to see how useful and eGPU actually is on a lighter weight system.

Im currently uploading the first tests results now , this will take a bit due to pictures and screenshots.

Tests I'm performing :

1. RX570 - Internal display OSX (Games , Video editing , Picture Editing)

This test involves running the RX570 feeding data back through the thunderbolt cable to the internal display. While my initial research showed this will involve an impact in performance. In this case I have not seen such a loss.

These test results proved to be interesting to me , I expected the system load to be high and the system to be strapped for resources causing the video card to be limited (even @ 4x ). Actual results turned out to be the opposite , the system spent a lot of its time waiting for the eGPU to consume the data.

Intel 617 Results (Internal Display) :

RX570 8GB Results (internal display) :

Cities Skylines : 2560x1600 Max everything :

2. RX570 - 4k Monitor (Same as above)

This will be testing driving a 4k + 1080p monitor plugged into the card.
