Hi All,

How good is torrent downloading in the new Macbook Air 2020? Does it overheat to 100 deg while Downloading? Please share your thoughts. Thank you

I haven't watched the temps specifically, but the fans sure don't spin up while downloading a torrent (I7 / 16GB / 512 ssd) on a 48mbit/s connection

..currently at 47 deg C just browsing the web on Safari

I am also planning to buy the same config. But I am a heavy torrent downloader. Was skeptical after hearing the Thermal problems. Thank you for sharing your thoughts

I just ran a quick test and the temp went up to 51 deg C

I am curious to know why torrenting should ever be a thermal problem, it never had been for me.
Right now I am using IPVanish VPN and the Transmission client to download a 2.16GB file at 4Mbps. The CPU load is negligible.

Its going to be my First Mac Purchase. Since after hearing the thermal problems, I was skeptical. So shared my concern. Good to know that it ain't gonna be a problem at all.

Shouldn't have any problems. It might be your torrent client. I can use uTorrent on a Windows XP VM, and it doesn't peg my CPU at all.

I think it will depend on what speeds you’re hitting. When I’m using a USB C to Ethernet adapter and downloading from my local server at 1 Gbps (100MB/s) my machine (i5/8/256) hits 100c within a minute and stays there throughout the entire download.

Maybe try a different client like Transmission, I have a freenas box which I use for private trackers. It's a very low powered device running on AMD n36L cpu (its weaker than the cpu in iphones) and it actually handles the freenas and transmission absolutely fine.

If you're struggling with torrents, see if you can run an always on seedbox in a home box. Pretty fun project: https://www.seedboxreviews.com/create-your-own-seedbox-for-free/

Torrents are nothing more than files. Often these are archives containing more files. Mac can download any torrent. He needs a suitable BitTorrent client (for example, Vuze) and needs a specific torrent file (I download from https://u1337x.org/), which means that the client software can find the peers with the necessary data.
