MacBook Air 2021 Applecare Problem

I bought in the Apple Store today a MacBook Air Starlight 512GB. I did not buy AppleCare for it at the store but decided to when I got home. After running the serial number is comes back as "not eligible". Talked to Apple Tech and they are trying to figure it out. Calling me back next week. Anyone else happen to run into this?

Same thing happened here. Bought new MacBook Air online and picked up in store. Get the machine set up and working great. So I go and try to buy Applecare a few minutes ago, put in serial and get not eligible.
