Hi everyone! First ever post. I am hoping to buy my wife a MacBook, and trying to decide what route to go. The only app that I am worried about is Mac Photos. We don't really do much photo editing, but a lot of curating. We have a really old iMac, and it gets pretty bogged down trying to work with Photos. Even my 3yo MacBook pro sometimes seems to get a little bogged down in Photos, and I don't have all that many on it (just a few thousand).

How does the 2020 MacBook Air do with the Mac Photos app? What specs do you think I should get to run smoothly? Or should I move up to the MacBook Pro?

Thanks in advance.

I use Photos on a 2011 MBP which has about 60% of the power of the current Air. Library is 10k+ photos and I don’t notice any sluggishness with simple edits and organizing. Until the WWDC announcement on processor changes I was considering an Air or MBP. Had pretty much decided on the MBP as it’s only 0.3 lbs heavier and offers more ports and speed. If the Apple Stores reopen she might want to try each of them out to see how she likes the form factors.
