I am thinking about getting a Macbook Air but I am concerned about the lack of a disc drive. I like to be able to hook up my laptop to my HDTV from time to time and play MKV files. Most of the time these files are 4.3 to 8.0gb so they can be quite large and usually are played off a DVD-R. My question is other than copying the file to the hard drive on the computer could I play the disc through my iMac and not experience dropped frames? I know I could buy the superdrive add-on but it would seem like a waste since this is usually the only time I use the drive in my Macbook now.

Just wondering if anyone has tried this yet.

I dont know if you can use remote disc for that... but if you dont want to spend 100 bucks on an optical drive, then use a cheap external IDE enclosure with usb and find some old dvd drive hook em up and there you go... home made DVD drive for under 20 bucks
;)
