hey

im a mac newb

i use windows and im clueless about macbooks

I have a macbook Air i believe its 2009/2010/2011 model.

Its the 13"

I replaced the battery but the new one isnt being detected

Its showing the battery symbol but with an X indication no battery present

preiviously it recognised the new battery but wouldnt charge it

I have a new charger - it is official and goes green when it magnetically attached to the power port.

Im unsure of the second battery works, the mba works when directly attached to mains but id prefer it if i can get a battery working too :/

thanks in advance

Enter your serial number here to find specs for your model. To find your serial number, click  on your Menu Bar at the top left corner of your screen, then click "About This Mac". Click the text below "Mac OS X" until you see your serial number.

MacBook Airs have built-in batteries that should only be replaced by Apple. Where did you get the battery? Or are you mistaken about your model?

You might try resetting the SMC.

This should answer most, if not all, of your battery questions:

resetted the smc - didnt do anything
even put the old battery back

at times i get the battery present but shows 0% and doesnt increase
most of the time its the batery symbol with the X

both are official apple battterys but probably ebay.

You still haven't answered where you got the battery.

probably ebay

i was given the mbp with the two batterys

works on mains direct with batterys present but never charges/recognises it

im led to believe both are official batterys as they look near identical.

both for the a1322 model

i just find it odd that sometimes it recognises it and most of the times it doesnt

It sounds like you got knockoff batteries, since Apple doesn't sell batteries via eBay. I wouldn't trust or recommend any non-Apple battery, due to the number of problems reported with "knockoff" batteries. Also, there is no assurance that knockoff batteries have the same charging technology that Apple uses, involving the battery, the MagSafe adapter and the Mac's logic board.
