I just got my MacBook Air :D

So which case would you guys recommend that protects the MacBook Air really well when placed in a bag filled with books and notes? I'm looking for cases that are priced below $40.

I generally keep it naked for the looks and feel of the Air but if I must protect it I have the incase sleeve.

Smart Mailer

When I got my Rev A, I had only a few hours before taking it on a flight. I bought a 9.5"x13.5" Scotch Smart Mailer at the local department store (and cut the closing flap off) as a "temporary" protective cover. I figured I'd case out some cases once I'd returned from my trip. The bubble-wrap, moisture resistant envelope worked so well that I never got around to dealing with a "real" case. I figured the Mailer would last a month or two, at which point I'd invest another $1.50 in a replacement. My time estimate was way off--I'm still using the original Mailer! :)

I do still get some strange looks when I pull my Air out of the yellow envelope (people have forgotten those original Air ads, I suppose) which to me is an added bonus. [I used the money I saved on an Air case to get my wife a high-quality case for her MBP.]

What about Tucano Second Skin cases for MB Air? I've got one for my MB Pro and I love the feel, unlike the Incase sleeve, but I'm not sure if it is recommended on the MB Air

I use the MBA Tucano sleeve.
Love it - works well as my MBA goes through airport x-ray machines most weeks!

Another vote for the Tucano Second Skin sleeve. They have a model designed expressly for the MBA. Fits like a glove, feels very nice. It has the added benefit that you can put the MBA through the airport X-ray machine without removing it from the case.

I also have the Tucano accessory pouch, and it's a nice idea but there are some flaws in its execution - things tend to fall out when you open it.
