Probably a loose screw in the bottom, take it in or buy the pentalobe screws to tighten them up a little.

There's little Apple can do about it. I've swapped it once, and brought it in another time to get the plate reseated and tightened. The creaking eventually comes back. I'm going to live with it, but it's really annoying.

Haven't tried owning my own pentalobe yet though... Nor the suggestion someone else posted about unscrewing and rescrewing yourself with some anti-loosening gel...

It works. I retightened with a speck of clear nail polish on each screw thread - no creaking since.

buy the screw driver, i just ordered one last week and got it in yesterday. its fixed my creaking issue so ill just retighten it as it loosen up

I don't know how it is for everyone else, but my creaking has gotten worse and worse. It's getting louder, and more frequent. Like I said, sometimes even at the slightest touch, or not touching it at all. It's kind of ridiculous.

My pentalobe screwdriver hasn't come yet.

----------

Question to those who have the screw: How long is the "fix"? How soon does the creaking return?

Anyone know if this is an issue for the models you can buy today?

My new Air 13 (manufactured 02/2013) which i bought 3 weeks initially was silent but couple days ago it creaked few times. It's not as bad as people describe (well, not yet) but it's noticeable. At moment i can't reproduce it though...

Thank you very much for the information.

Reports on this issue seemed to have died down. Perhaps because the majority of new MBA's don't have the issue or because the issue it now not as severe / random as you describe.

I'd be interested to find out if anyone else has this issue with a 2012 MBA.

A few years ago I used to have a 2011 MBA that I returned because of the issue. For the last 2 years I have been using a MBP. I want to upgrade my machine, ideally to a MBA - but not if it's got this issue!

Funny you made this thread. I have noticed on the left side of my 2011 macbook air that it sometimes creaks and makes a noise when being lifted up to be moved. Does this need to be fixed? I have apple care so what would apple do for me if anything?
