I have a 2015 MacBook Air, 8/256. I need to replace the battery; it shuts down from lack of power after about two hours of being unplugged. It cannot be upgraded past the Monterey operating system. Still has adequate storage left (roughly half full). Does everything I want it to and more. Shipping it to Apple for a new battery will cost $160 (circumstances do not allow me to drive to the Apple Store). Been considering the new M2; looked at them at the Apple Store. The more I think about it, the more I think I will replace my 2015's battery. Bad decision?

If anything go with an M1 while you can. Minus the battery replacement you are looking at a $700 laptop that performs better and will get OS updates for years.

It's not necessarily a *bad* decision since your machine does everything you want it to, but I agree with the recommendation to upgrade to at least an M1 Air. I replaced a 2015 MBP with my current M1 Air, and it was a night and day difference in responsiveness. And as someone else mentioned, you'll extend the time to receive security updates.

7 years is a good run - you deserve a new laptop. :)
