According to applescoop.com:

Domain Name "Macbookair.com" is registered

Going on a tip, we did a standard URL search for the domain name "macbookair.com" and found out that the domain does go to a company called "Park-your-domaIn.com.

When we did a "who-is" search on the domain, our staff found the following:

Domain Name: MACBOOKAIR.COM
Registrar: ENOM, INC.
Whois Server: whois.enom.com
Referral URL: http://www.enom.com
Name Server: DNS1.NAME-SERVICES.COM
Name Server: DNS2.NAME-SERVICES.COM
Name Server: DNS3.NAME-SERVICES.COM
Name Server: DNS4.NAME-SERVICES.COM
Name Server: DNS5.NAME-SERVICES.COM
Status: clientTransferProhibited
Updated Date: 11-jan-2008
Creation Date: 11-jan-2008
Expiration Date: 11-jan-2009

>>> Last update of whois database: Sat, 12 Jan 2008 14:24:55 UTC <<<

Note the update dates for the domain (11-jan-2008). The Registrar (enom, inc.) hosts web sites. However, we cannot find out who hosts the APPLE.COM domain web site.

Could this be wishful thinking by an Apple user, or the name for a new MacBook? What's your take?

I can't imagine Apple would have waited until 1/11/08 to register it... I'd say a wishful user with little knowledge of trademark law.

Apple would have registered it a long time ago if they were really wanting it, it is just somebody hoping that Apple will buy it off of them because of the sign at Macworld.

Apple would have registered this domain long before January if they were intending on letting any knowledge of it out. It is probably a fanboy looking for a way to make a quick buck.

That would be my take.

exactly, nowadays you utter a new phrase or word and you can bet your life someone somewhere will register that as a domain name.

I found out the other day someone had registered a domain name to a computer company that a friend owns. instead of .co.uk they registered it as .com

people will do anything.
