MacBook Air hdd

I have a MacBook Air early 2014 that works great and a early 2015 I’m attempting to repair...when I transfer hdd the 2015 won’t work with the 2014 hdd ..why doesn’t it recognise it and is there a way to fix it...I don’t want to pay out for a new hdd If the 2015 is toast..
I also don’t want to loose any of my 2014 hdd data

SSDs from a 2013 to 2017 Airs are completely interchangeable. I have had no problems using drives from the 2013 to 2015 Pro in the Air and vice versa.

Create a Mojave USB installer using the 2014 Air. Create a back up of your data or use CCC to clone the SSD. Move the SSD to the 2015 and use installer to erase the drive before installing Mojave.

You are not wrong. The 2014 and 2015 drives are from different generations but fit in different 2013 to 2015 MacBooks because they have the same physical connector and pin layout.

The 2013 and 2014 Air uses a PCIe 2.0 x 2 bus while the 2015 Air uses a PCIe 2.0 x 4 bus. Apple had to move to a newer generation of SSD to take advantage of the wider bus.
