I have a Gen 1 Air Macbook (flap down usb) 1.86 Core 2 Duo 2G RAM - I was going to sell it and I though I would just do a clean install on it. It was working fine before I erased the drive. During Install, it started installing then half way done it just sat there for hours with 8 mins left. - tried again, same thing. it gives me the error message Install Fail: "could not copy the necessary support files" So I moved to Time Machine, same thing - no install.

Solutions on-line suggest replacing RAM, can't do that since it's on-board or Hard Drive I don't have one handy but it passed all the drive utilities test and successfully did a Zero out Data so I think that is ok

I need some help on what to try next pleeeeease. Well here it is:

1- Install Failing on MacBook Air Gen1 1.86 C2D "could not copy the necessary support files"

2- I'm using a install USB (I have SL and Lion) neither work on this computer but do on other computers

3- Disc Utility say everything is fine - System profiler says RAM is OK

4- Can't install to an external because there is only one usb and can't remove RAM because is in the logicboard

I would love to hear any ideas on how to move forward with this thing.

I have tried -

- Installing Snow Lepord

- Installing Lion

- Reformatting Drive

- Pram Reset & SMC

- Time Machine Backup

- O-out Drive erase (no problems detected)
