Well, I finally took advantage of the Best Buy sale going on and got the M1. For my wants and needs as an basic user, it seems fine and wanted to know if this model should at least carry me for five to six years. (I got it to replace my MacBook Air 2017).

I'm curious as well. I'm thinking about getting a 16GB model from the EDU Store but the thing holding me back is that at the end of the year, the computer will already be 3 years old. How many more years will Apple even support it for updates? And we may see an M3 in the fall or spring. Is it worth it to wait rather than buy the M1?

The 16GB for sure.

What's specs on both? You still have the 2017?
