Hello,

I have a brand new (10 days) Macbook Air M1 and I feel the battery is emptying rather fast. I think remembering reading when it came out that the battery life was extraordinary (15 hours?) but so far, after 4-5 hours it's down to 50% already... Is that normal?

The battery "app" says it's normal.

Just surfing, nothing odd or special or taxing.

Also, today there is a smell coming from it, a slight burn/glue smell from inside... I touch everything and nothing is hot, everything seems fine to me. But the smell has been there all day today...

Should I worry?

Thanks!

I'd take the bottom case off and visually check the machine if you're smelling burning...

Depending on the task you are doing this is probably normal. 15 hours is the rated battery, in reality it`s slightly worse. You can always install an app to see current power draw, I can recommend "Stats" since its free and works with the M1. At 50% screen brightness and normal use my computer pulls around 4W.

As for the smell, never experienced this myself, but it seems worrying.

I called Apple, they made me reinstall stuff and pretty much told me 5-6 hours non stop was about it... That the 15 hours "promised" in the media wasn't for non stop using...
