Hello.

I was playing around with the System Report, and I realized that my MacBook Air M2, which I purchased in November 20022, is at 85% battery health, with only 166 cycles.

I've never really paid attention to the cycle count, but I have a MacBook Pro 13" 2015 which was at the same health by the time I bought this Mac, and I bought it in May 2015.

Is it possible that this battery was faulty?

The way I charge the Mac is plug it until 100% and disconnect it. I've always done this with every Mac I've had. (Three MacBook Pro).

It doesn't get hot.

I don't use it for prolonged periods of time (maybe 4 hours at most).

My M1 just tanked over the last couple of months. Coconut Battery says a 10% drop. I’m maybe 90 cycles. Don’t recall exactly.

But that’s how batteries work.

It’s still under warranty for another few months but if the warranty expires then I’ll replace myself it or trade it in.

Anything’s possible.

Does the battery run long enough to suit your needs? There’s nothing “magical” about the 80% battery life figure; once you’re outside of warranty/AppleCare coverage you replace it on condition (I.e. if it starts swelling) or for performance reasons (I.e. not lasting long enough).
