This just started and is driving me nuts. MB Air randomly and repeatedly dinging along with momentary screen dimming. Nothing running. I did a restart and it didn't help. I did a full shutdown and started up again... dinging and dimming even before I entered my password. Help, please!

Edit: this seems to be something to do with charging. It says connected but not charging and if I disconnect the magsafe plug it stops dinging. The charger has been acting funny lately and seemed to work with the magsafe plug one certain side up. Now doesn't charge at all. LOL. Maybe I need ot find my USB-C charging plug.

Sounds like your charger/cable is shorting out. When it stops and starts charging, you get that ding sound. The screen dims slightly when you go onto battery power and then gets brighter again when it connects back to AC power.

Dig out that USB-C cable and I think you'll find the problem stops.

It’s likely the MagSafe charging cable has a short in it. It’s probably not the entire charger. Get a USB-C to USB-C cable and test it with the existing charger. It could be some type of debris on the MagSafe charging connector as well. I’ve never had this happen on a Mac, but I’ve had it happen with my iPhone and it’s extremely annoying.
