Hi everyone,

I just saw that my unit has 8 suction cup marks on the display. Any idea how to get rid of it? I already tried to wipe them away with a micro fiber tissue without success. I want to avoid to go through a long and complicated replacement procedure and hours of explaining to Apple what exactly is wrong here. Would you ignore it? It's not visible during normal use - just when you look from an extreme angle.

Unfortunately, no. I already purchased it at the end of last year.
So, I don‘t know much about how these suction marks develop or in which step of the process they happen. Also, are they really on the outside of the glass panel or maybe on the inside, making it impossible to get rid off them?

I think everybody is different but I‘ve noticed that I meet similar minded people here on macrumors in regards to their devices.
I’m quite fussy about my devices, especially given the price tags and I know that once I saw an imperfection that was not caused by me, I tend to ruminate and get anxious and uncomfortable, even enjoying my machine less.

I understand you coming here and asking for opinions and you will probably get a few different ones.

Ask yourself, if you want to sell the device later or just hand it down or use it till it falls apart. Imperfections might be of concern then. Also, ask how things like that would affect you.

I think you have a very legitimate reason to reach out to Apple, the machine is very new and still in warranty and from my experiences they will acknowledge your worries and wishes in an appropriate manner.

What do you think?

To be honest, this is one of those annoying decision that needs to be made and no one really likes.
I think I will reach out to Apple and see what they say.

Yeah, just open a support chat with Apple and see what they say. I predict they'll ask you to make a Genius Bar appointment, so you might be quicker just doing that in the first place.

This is exactly what just happened :)
I will make an appointment and will update here when I have news.

So you didn’t notice these marks until just this week? I think I would have seen them when I first got the laptop. But if they weren't there then but are now I would try some iKlear on a microfiber cloth, not tissue, which is very effective in clearing stains or marks from screens. I use it to clean the screens of all my devices as well as my eyeglasses. Many of us had defective screens on the new MBAs, I as well as most of the others were able to get the laptops replaced, but these were immediately noticeable. Also why do you call these suction cup marks, that’s pretty specific?

Hey :)

I just noticed it today because you really have to look from specific angles against the light when it mirrors a non black background. I’m not an English native speaker so I don’t know if tissue is the correct word. I used one of these super soft microfibers that you use for cleaning your glasses (is cloth the correct word?). I instantly thought of one of these machines with suction cups which automatically assemble electronic devices or car glasses. Don’t ask me why. Because I maybe have seen it before on TV? I don’t know.

Try that solution, iKlear, available from Amazon. It’s really good to have around for such things. But initially you might just try a slightly damp microfiber cloth. I don’t think a dry cloth would really be effective even if it were just a fingerprint.

Have them too - seems like residue from whatever machine likely presses glassed into shell. Easy to see when you breath on the glass (like you would to clean glasses).

My Audi has them too.

Got a set of three on the inside of my Skoda Octavia MK3 VRS which can be seen on cold mornings. Skoda said they would need to arrange for a specialist cleaner to work on them - basically, they will cut polish the glass. Not sure I can be bothered as I am more fearful the polisher will just end up scratching my soft dash.
