Hey there.

I recently discovered an alarming signal within my macbook and was wondering what it meant. I noticed when I clicked on my battery icon on the upper right corner, that it says "service now." My laptop is under warranty until august 26th, 2015. but I really hope I don't have to go to the apple store, and just the resolve the issue at home.

anybody know what i should do, or if this is bad?

I have a mid 2012 Macbook Air, btw.

You need to get your battery replaced by Apple.
Backup all your files to an external drive (time machine would be best),
then take it to the Apple Store.

They'll replace your battery for free as long as you're under warranty.
Backup is just in case, not necessarily needed. But I'm sure you'd rather have the assurance then not.

Service battery means, the battery needs to be serviced/replaced.
It's bad because it means your battery may possibly give out on you. Get if fixed asap and then you don't have to worry about it.

Thanks for informing me of whats going on. oddly enough, I shut down my macbook air for an hour and returned and that "service now" indicator was removed. Since I posted the "service now" indicator hasn't even showed up and is not there anymore. I'm still under warranty though. Would it still be a good idea to take it in just in case, because now I'm looking at the battery and it says normal. Kind of confused me. it has stayed "normal" for hours.

Take it in.
And stop showing people your serial number >_>

Explain the situation to them and see if they can replace it just in case.
