MacBook Air not recognizing iPhone 4

Just got a new mac yesterday and not only will iTunes not recognize the phone, but the Mac won't even recognize the phone (if iTunes is closed I can't even plug it in to charge via USB). Ultimately I want to put music on my iPhone through iTunes but I can't if it cannot be recognized. None of the Apple support pages help me and I think it has something to do with that usbmuxd file. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you tried a different cable? Also just transfer over the iTunes folder from your old computer for use in iTunes.

Yes it is not the cable. And I have transferred it over, however now it is a question of getting music to my iphone. i would just do it over wifi but i have to plug my phone in just once to enable it.
