sleeps just fine if i close the lid or if i go to apple --> sleep, but it will not go to sleep by itself according to the preferences in energy saver. never happened on my old macbook pro. ive looked through the sleep page on apple's site, but still cant figure it out.

anyone have this problem too, or have a solution?

It might be a program that is keeping it awake. Try restarting the computer and leaving it alone and see if it sleeps.

Figured it out finally! It was Bettertouchtool preventing sleep.

of course, better touch tool is one of the best apps i have on my mac, so guess I'll have to just remember to close the lid every time i want the computer to sleep.

I am having this same problem, not sure if it is BTT, but I do run that. I am using a Macbook Air 11" Ultimate, mid 2011 model.

I will run some tests on this and report back here.
