I have a four year old Macbook Air (10.12.6) and yesterday it stopped running properly.

When I turn it on it goes through a dark screen loading sequence - I believe this is the same screen you get then installing an update. After a minute or two I will get to the login screen...

Sometimes I can login...sometimes it freezes before I can login. If I login, at some random period of time of a minute or two it will slow to a crawl and then eventually it will just crash (black screen turned off).

I can't boot into Safe Mode - I still get slowness and eventually crashing.

I suspect that it has something to do with 10.12.6 but I don't know how I can deal with this or even try to reinstall it. Barring taking it to a shop (I'm in Haiti at the moment so that's not possible) I'm not sure what I should try to do...

Any help?

Thanks

I believe it's resolved. I was able to boot into (command R) restore mode. A recent backup, that did not include the recent installation of AutoCAD, and now things are working just fine...
