A friend of mine told me, if our mac is under warranty, just tell them to refresh it, just for the sake of it,an edit will make it run faster.

he had non-retina macbook pro and it increased the speed.

he told me basically they will open all parts and clean it, etc etc etc...just like some maintenance process..

mine is macbook air, i'm under warranty for 1 more year...is it recommended to do this?

Wate of time unless you have lots of dust in the fan. Mechanical detritus has no effect.
Software detritus, on the other hand, does have an effect. If it's slowing down then get rid of stuff you don't use so as to free up some drive space - if needed (check your drive using something like Grand Perspective - http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/19515/grandperspective). As you have an SSD there's no need to defrag the drive.
OSX doesn't need reinstalling every 6 months as Windoze does, but in extremis try that also.

After 2 years of use your MBA should still be running fine - except if you have almost run out of drive space.
