As some users may know a while back My MacBook air bottom casing was damaged from a drop I finally decided to get the entire bottom housing replaced at genious bar for $290 they informed me this morning that the logic board was accidentally damaged upon repair and they will just replace my entire laotop with a new one because of time cost and labor

They offered me to either get an 13" MacBook air 8 GB with 256 GB SSD or a MacBook Pro retina Base model 13" i told him I would call him back within the hour with my decision

Should I just take the new upgraded air or get the rMbp I love how light and portable the air is but is it worth it since it's basically soon to be discontinued ?

Since you have to make a decision now - the 13" rMBP jut got updated with Broadwell processors and the new Force Touch trackpad. I would go with that.

Thanks and yes that's what I was thinking but I'm gonna miss the Airs looks and feel but the upgrades are nice

the rMBP is a better machine imo,

Why not see if you can get a MB :D

The one port wouldn't work for me I'm in college so I need the many ports for USB drives and hdmi to watch movies while charging plus I need it now since the semester is still going on

The MBA also got upgraded with Broadwell processors (but not the touch pad).

So....What did you end up getting?

Ended up getting the updated Air if i would have gotten the pro would have had to wait a week for it to be shipped and couldn’t afford to with me taking some online classes

For free I would have also taken the Air! Broadwell and HD6000 is a nice upgrade but otherwise not worth paying for.

Yeah but honestly coming from my 2014 I notice 0 differences in speed or anything but it was a nice upgrade knowing I only paid $580 for the 2014 that was replaced with this one

Hence why I bought a 2014 before the price rise outside of the US, and I'm 100% happy with my purchase despite the 2015 coming out :)

Nothing to be surprised about, you won't notice the difference without throwing some serious loads at it.

As a side note, I wonder, does the Apple order the replacement bottom housing to be made with your serial number on it or do they just give you the generic one without any device specific markers? I wouldn't be very happy with that if the latter is true.

I've also wondered how they issue a replacement base housing, with or without serial number. I'm guessing it has a new serial number and they change it in the system so you retain your original warranty.

No the new one they replace it with has the same serial number as the old one
