Apple is developing a MacBook Air with a 13.4-inch OLED display, according to Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants. The new model would have a slightly smaller display compared to the existing MacBook Air with a 13.6-inch LCD panel.

In a tweet shared with paid subscribers today, Young added that the MacBook Pro is unlikely to adopt an OLED display until 2026, when Apple's supply chain is expected to have sufficient notebook-optimized OLED display production capacity. Until then, Young said suppliers will be focused on OLED displays for tablets, such as the iPad Pro.

In December, Young said Apple plans to launch the MacBook Air and 11.1-inch/13-inch iPad Pro models with OLED displays in 2024. Macs and iPads with OLED displays would feature increased brightness and improved contrast ratio compared to LCD models, and the displays would also be more power efficient for longer battery life.

It was reported earlier today that Samsung Display has started development of OLED displays that will be used in the future MacBook Air. In the meantime, Young expects Apple to release a larger 15-inch MacBook Air with an LCD panel this year.

Young has accurately leaked many display-related details about future Apple products, including ProMotion coming to the iPhone 13 Pro and MacBook Pro, the sixth-generation iPad mini featuring a larger 8.3-inch display, and much more.

15" OLED MBA = instant buy for me. I would prefer that over a MacBook Pro (main reason I have the MacBook Pro is the larger HDR mini LED display).

I am kind of surprised that they have basically ignored the mid-size laptop market for so many years. There are many, many people (especially older people) who only want a larger screen and don't care much about the other features.

Missing a 2 lb MBA.

Also, not sure if this is good or not for those experiencing eye strain with the newer displays.

Why is the display smaller? Will they be removing the notch?

Maybe this world will see 12" Macbook Air? Anyone missing the Macbook in 12" Display?

This is the most plausible explanation for this rumour. 0.4" difference is too minuscule unless the 13.6" get discontinued by the time 13.4" released.
I really, really hope this would be the 12" MacBook resurrection. Will be purchasing this for sure. Day 1 purchase if it's coming in Rose Gold.

This is too much to ask for.
Man, I love pink. I love Apple's interpretation of blush pink named Rose Gold.
But yeah, I know I'm asking too much here. I presume they will serve us with the usual Starlight, Silver, Space Gray and Midnight.

None of these rumors make any sense anymore.

- First, they said the 15 MacBook Air was gonna launch with M2 processor
- They said it would be here by March
- Now they are saying June 2023 and it will have M3

Here is honest truth.

- You will not get a MacBook Air with OLED, its just ridiculous; the price of the Air would skyrocket. Remember this still needs to be a relatively affordable device. Look at the fact that a new design for the M2 model bumped the price.
- You will get an iPad Pro 11 and 13 inch with OLED first
- iPad Air will get Mini LED technology
- MacBook Pro's will get OLED by 2025
- MacBook Air will move to OLED only when the cost comes down for Apple and likely when the MacBook Pro switches to MicroLED which likely won't be until the end of the decade.

Seems odd that the MacBook Air would get OLED before the Pro line.
The pro’s have mini led which is just as good as oled but not as power efficient as oled because of the backlight. The air’s also outsell the pro’s because they are cheaper. The pro’s will eventually get oled though down the road, maybe even micro-led but that could be asking too much to soon

I would like it gold 2018, I have Watch, all the bands with the pink pin, MacBook 12", iPad mini and iPhone dock of that color. iPhone no because I didn't like the 8 (but owns it a family member in gold 2018) and it's the only one they did, I had to buy a 13 mini pink. I have an addiction to that color, I buy everything look like it, even in copper, I have the house full of details in that color. I can't explain it either. I have all the Apple devices the company has made of that color. I also wanted to buy the iMac but the pink one is pink and the orange one is orange, they look like them in the photos but live you can see that they are different.

So now we're going to have a 13.4 inch and 13.3 inch OLED MacBook Air?

Who's right and who's wrong?

I just need a rumor about Spring Keynote. Other than that, I don't care if OLEDs come or not. It will affect my next mac purchase. Will I continue the current MBA with M2 or with something new?

It’s not just as good. A set of local dimming zones that is much less than the number of pixels is, by definition, not as good as each pixel being individually lit. Even if the mini-LED was as good, that logic doesn’t make sense. Apple likely sells more iPad Airs than iPad Pros. Should the Air get a nicer screen first and then it trickles up to the Pro line?

The only way the MBA getting OLED first is if the MBP is going to go straight to micro-LED, which seems unlikely.
