I own a MacBook Pro, 16.2 inch, 2020 build, 2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5, 58 watt battery.

I also own an Anker Power Pro III Elite Model A1291 'Hub' battery which provides 87 watts.

My MacBook's battery is original, runs down very quickly, and Apple has refused to replace it.

I'd like to use the Anker to power the MacBook when I can't plug in. However, the Anker will only power the MacBook for 15 minutes and then the MacBook will show its receiving power, but won't charge. The battery then dies just like always.

Is there a workaround for this?

FYI: I'm told the issue may be that the MacBook's battery wants to 'talk' to the Apple wall charger but can't when I use the Anker. So, if, it cant talk, it just refuses to take a charge.

It should charge your laptop. The only guess I have is maybe you put your battery pack into trickle charge mode? Does the usb-c cable work with the Apple charger?

Do you have another cable to test with? I recently had a usb-c cable fail on me after using it for years. It’ll connect and start charging but then the power rate fluctuates wildly between the expected rate and <1w. Replaced the cable and no more issues.
