hi all, those that use their MacBooks as a companion computer to their desktop, let me know some tips on how you keep things in sync.

I have the new iMac retina (1TB fusion drive), macbook retina (256GB), and old MBP (256GB).

I will use the iMac mainly for browsing, word-processing, lightroom, and photoshop.

I use the macbook on the go at work.

My wife uses the MBP as her main computer.

I want to try to centralize things like music and photos, either on the iMac or possibly even a NAS. What do you guys do?

Thanks!

Well the perfect world would be:

  • iCloud Drive for all documents
  • iCloud Photo Library for photos
  • iTunes Match for music
  • Remotely accessible NAS for movies
My world is currently:

  • iCloud Drive for all documents
  • Clever use of Photostream to keep Photos in sync
  • Manual management of music (rare for me)
  • Remotely accessible NAS for movies
That's for "syncing" between an iMac and a rMB.

I'm very tempted by the 200GB iCloud plan for iCloud Drive and iCloud Photo Library...and I'd probably shove my iTunes library on iCloud Drive to keep that synced too since I'd have a load of free space.

Has anyone used photos app and lightroom on the same pile of photos?
