Is a macbook "futureproof" enough for say 2-3 years? Would I be able to run OS X Leopard (with the GMA 950) without slowdowns and and reduction in productivity? Leopard seems to be even more graphically intensive than Tiger. Thanks.

Yep, you'll be fine. Leopard's eye-candy requirements are the same as Tiger's - you need a Core Image capable graphics processor, the GMA950 certainly fits the bill.
