I have an interesting issue with my samba network shares I use to share data between my computers. On my MacBook, if I'm connected to a share when I put the machine to sleep by closing the lid there is no problem, although when I bring the machine back up it doesn't reconnect but thats a minor irritant and something I can understand.
The problem comes when the share I was using was actively in use. For instance, if I leave iPhoto up which has its library on the network share and close the lid, when I wake the machine back up what happens after I close iPhoto and then connect to my network share is that I get this in the volumes folder
/Volumes/public
/Volumes/public-1
the folder ending in -1 is the actual network share. It seems when I close the lid OS X copies dummy files from the /Volumes/public/iPhoto library to make iPhoto not crash (I love OS X
), but when those files aren't needed it doesn't recognize that. When I mount the share it mounts it in -1, unless I do the iPhoto lid thing again in which case I get another folder with public-2 etc.
This wouldn't really be an issue except that I don't want stupid folders with stupid files on my disk. Also, every time this happens iPhoto loads up a dummy library which means I have to close iPhoto and delete the old folder and remount the network share. Getting to be a pain
Sorry for the probably poor description of my problem, its pretty early and the coffee hasn't fully kicked me into gear
