Hi there,
last night, my Mac got stuck with it's screensaver (could not type in pw to unlock it), so I restarted it. However, upon restarting, I got stuck with the grey screen that has the apple & spinning circle on it. After resetting the PRAM and trying to startup in safe mode to no avail, I brought the MacBook into the apple store. I was told that the HD is fine, but I could just try to archive & install my OS (which came with the Mac in the first place). *I believe my HD is running 10.5.7 and the disk is 10.5.5*
This did not work. It kept failing and the message was "the installer could not install some files on /Volumes/MacintoshHD." I should probably mention that going into disk utility and clicking on "repair disk" was alright, but when upon clicking "repair disk permissions", there was an erroneous message. (Honestly, I'm not quite sure if it is important though
)
Anyhow, before I go back to the apple store, I'm wondering if anyone has any other suggestions? Any help would be much appreciated.
** I'm actually considering wiping out my files and starting fresh... but I'd much prefer to backup my files . . . . if at all possibile?
Thanks in advance
