Hi all, no luck with searching, any advice much appreciated.

My daughter has a MacBook 1.1 running OSX 10.4.11. It is not linked to external speakers or any other external devices. Recently the sound from the internal speakers has failed completely.

System preferences/Sound/Output gives one option only: "Digital Out. Port: Built-in Output" The volume slider is greyed-out and a note says: "The selected device has no output controls"

On my own G4 powerbook, System prefs/Sound/Output gives me "Internal speakers - Built-in Audio" which works fine. I assume the MacBook should say the same but have no idea how to get there.

Any assistance, please

Charles

MacBook audio failure

Just scrolled down and seen CinemaslaveJoe has similar problem. Unlike him, this MacBook does give me an audio output option. It's just the wrong one!

Plenty of threads on this. You probably have something stuck in the headphone jack, be it dirt or lint. Search the threads on different ideas to take care of it.
