I have a 2018 MacBook Air that still works just fine for my needs. That said, I did notice that the battery health is down to 77% and according to Apple, service is recommended. However, I no longer use the machine in a mobile fashion anymore, and it stays on my desk 24/7 plugged into the wall socket.

I was curious, since it remains plugged into the wall continuously, is replacing the battery as high of a priority if I used it in a mobile fashion?

Also, are there any setting that i should set my battery to, in order to preserve what life it has left (I did inadvertently turn the charge to 100% feature on, but it only went up to 80% and then went back on hold again).

I would think not, but it depends on how long you need the laptop on battery power. A few hours, you should be fine. Looking for most of the day, replace the battery.

I would say no. Just keep using the machine. Even if the battery gets to 10% you can still use the machine on shore power. The machine is already 6-7 years old and you have obviously gotten good use from your machine. Use it until it dies as long as it serves your needs.

I would consider replacing when MacOS updates are no longer available.

I would also highly recommend that you do regular Time Machine backups so when you get a new machine it will be easy to get a new machine back to your configuration.
