I bought my Macbook back in 2007 and didn't had much issues until now.

My Macbook battery has slowly expanded to the point where the sides of the battery case is popping open.

Surprisingly the battery still works.

I found articles that indicate this is a frequent issue with Mac batteries.

I am planning to go to an Apple Store which is about 1 hour drive.
I am afraid the the Geniuses won't do anything because my Macbook has passed the 1 year warranty.

I thought about spending $170 on a new battery at Futureshop, but I don't want the same thing happening again with a new battery if this a known issue.

What should I do in this situation?

I am getting mixed results.

Some say yes, it can be replaced pass the warranty.

Some say no, it can't be replaced pass the warranty.

Some people say the same issue even happens with the replacement battery.
Did you even read the link I provided?

Like the link says, the bloated battery is a defect. They will replace it, my boyfriend walked in without an appointment and a genius saw what was wrong and brought out a battery before we even talked to anyone. He has a 2007 black macbook.

I called the Apple Store in Toronto.

The store rep. told me that since the Macbook is passed the one year warranty I would have to pay for the price of the battery.

I would have to book an appointment with the store for the Geniuses to even look at the issue.

So there is no free battery replacement.
