I've just woken up my MBP from sleep, and it's saying the battery is charging. I don't understand why it would be because it hasn't been unplugged overnight.
It's done this a few times before but this is the longest I've seen it having to charge up fully; says it will take an hour.

Is the battery failing? My MBP was a shop floor display I got in 2009.

Try allowing it to go completely dead ( leave it on until it shut's down on iot's own) Then give it a full charge.
