So my macbook won't boot at all. First the system hard froze, so I rebooted but got stuck at the spinning circle. So I rebooted again and went into windows which worked fine but after rebooting once more I get nothing but a grey screen. I've put in the system disc and tried holding down just about every key (option, c, s, d, even resetting pram) but none of them elicit any response. Just a grey screen. One time I managed to get a pointer but nothing more.

Any ideas short of sending it in? I'd really like to back up the drive before sending it in to applecare (which I need to do anyway for a panel issue). Is it possible to remove the drive and hook it up to a desktop without too much hassle? This is really strange just seeing the grey screen without being able to boot from a disc, not even the dreaded flashing question mark...just nothing.

Thanks.
