Macbook brightness change when disconnect DVI

I run multi monitors a lot and whenever I disconnect the monitors, my brightness on my LCD shoots up to maximum and i have to dim it down. It's a minor annoyance but it only started happening after I upgraded to 10.6.8

How can I get Mac OS to remember my brightness setting?
